LANAP surgery is a great innovation. It's been around for about 30 odd years and back in 2016 it was FDA approved for regeneration, which is absolutely phenomenal. Now, in comparing laser LANAP surgery with traditional surgery, we've got, they both accomplish the same thing, which is reduction of pockets, which is the main problem when it comes to gum disease.

Everyone with gum disease will have varying degrees of deeper pockets and with LANAP and Osteosurgery, or traditional surgery, the goal is to reduce those. Now, with traditional surgery, it's a physical reduction of the gingival pocket, so the pocket around the tooth. If, let's just say you've got a six millimeter pocket, we know that a healthy pocket is somewhere between one and three millimeters, and if it's a six millimeter pocket, with traditional surgery, we're going to physically cut away the top three millimeters of that pocket to leave you with three millimeters of a healthy pocket.

So now, we know that I've left you with a healthy pocket, but in the process, I've exposed your roots, which is going to increase your sensitivity, you're going to have food trapped, all that stuff that goes along with traditional surgery. With LANAP surgery, again, same idea, we're reducing the pocket, however, that same six millimeter pocket, we're actually regenerating that pocket from the base up. So we're closing that pocket from the bottom up, and we're leaving three millimeters of healthy pocket up top.


So it's still cleansable, just like I wanted it to be, but we haven't created recession. There might be a little bit of sensitivity with LANAP surgery initially, but it dissipates over time, but you don't have that long-term exposed roots, you're not going to have that sensitivity, you're not going to have food trapping, it's just a less invasive way of accomplishing the same thing.
