Long-term gum health is very, very important. Now, a lot of patients feel that once they've had a deep cleaning or once they've had periodontal surgery, be it laser or traditional surgery, that they're done. It's a one and done, we're done.

You're going to have periods of absolute great gum health, and then all of a sudden, you're just going to start going down. So, what we do here in this practice is we do periodontal maintenance. It's more than what you would get at a general office.

It's a lot less than a deep cleaning. It's sort of what I like to call infection control. So, usually with periodontal maintenance, we like to have our patients come in every 90 days, and there's a reason for this.


We know from our studies that it takes 89 days for the bacteria to get to a point where they can start causing problems. So, that's why we swoop in on the 90th day, and we have patients come in, and we make sure that they see our hygienist, and that we do that infection control appointment, and we get that bacterial level back down so it doesn't get to the point again where we need to do something more significant.
